Capturing a different chapter of Reeves’ journey, each of Standing Up’s tracks moves the listener through grief, courage, freedom, celebration and faith with honesty and vulnerability. Together, the collection tells a story that acknowledges that, though healing isn’t always linear, it is absolutely always possible.
“Standing Up is the soundtrack to one of the most transformative seasons of my life,” shares Reeves. “It begins in heartbreak and uncertainty, walks through healing and rediscovering who I am, and ends in hope, joy, and finding love again. The album’s title track shares a defiant, anthemic declaration of resilience after loss, doubt, and hiding. Where “Made” settles the question of identity, “Standing Up” answers what comes next: getting back up on shaky knees, breaking out of old cages, and moving forward in the face of fear. As inspiration for the album’s title, it functions as the mission statement for the whole project — the sound and spirit that Standing Up is built around.
About the title track, Reeves also shares, “‘Standing Up’ was the first song I wrote after making the decision to get divorced. I was completely broken and terrified of what life would look like next, but somewhere beneath the heartbreak was a lion inside me that refused to stay down. This song became my declaration of faith before I fully felt it—a choice to believe that God wasn’t finished with my story and that I could be brave, even with shaking knees. It became the heartbeat of the entire album, representing the moment I stopped letting fear define me and started choosing hope, healing, and the courage to stand up.”
