Dynamic, Buoyant Duet Mixes Pop Polish with Soulful Gospel Roots
Sidewalk Records recording artist Wyn Starks proves that you can take the singer out of the church, but you can’t take the church out of the singer. Available today, 8/12, Starks channels his gospel roots on “Tomorrow,” a collaborative track that features show-stopping vocals not only from Starks, but also from co-writer (and longtime friend) Andreas Moss, and delivers a well-timed dose of uplift to a world that’s been down on its luck. “‘Tomorrow’ is about refusing to stay stuck, no matter how bad things look today,” says Starks, who teamed up with Moss, Nikal Fieldz, Jared Thorne, and Ronnie Ficcaro to write the song. “You are always looking for better, and that’s what ‘Tomorrow’ represents. It’s okay to hurt, to feel emotions, but we can’t allow it to keep us in a space where we are stagnant and unable to move forward.”
Beginning with upright piano and a finger-snapped groove, “Tomorrow” grows into a bright, buoyant salute to positivity and perseverance. Starks and Moss perform their own verses before tracing one another’s voices in acrobatic arcs of harmony, and a gospel choir joins them during the song’s second half. The result is a bright song for murky times, with Starks and Moss literally singing the praises of banding together and staying the course.
“Tomorrow” marks the newest release in a year that’s been busy for both singers. Starks released singles like “Sparrow,” “Perfect,” and “Linger” during the initial months of 2021, before collaborating with Melanie Pfirrman on “Not a Waste.” Most recently, he teamed up with DK the Drummer and Daisha McBride for the percussive pop song “A Dagger.” Meanwhile, Moss has been similarly productive, showing the full range of his diverse sound with recent releases like “Real Love,” “In the Meantime,” and “Buy Your Love.”
