“This tribute album to Ronald Reagan is very personal to me because I had the opportunity to travel with him on several occasions when I was serving as the National Co-Chairman of his Presidential Campaign in 1980, when I was serving as the California Co-Chairman in 1986, and when I served as Program Chairman in the 1980 Reagan/Bush Convention in Detroit. President Reagan also gave me the opportunity to serve in Washington, DC as Chairman of the RNFC and the Presidential Trust. My wife Linda and I are also Co-Founders of the Ronald Reagan Institute in Washington, DC which includes the Curb Media Center and the Curb Victory Hall in the Reagan Museum and Library in California.”
“Ronald Reagan and I both came from the entertainment industry, and it gave us the opportunity to exchange creative ideas and write a couple of songs while riding in the back seat of his car during the mid-1970s. It was Ronald Reagan’s idea to write a song called We Can Begin The World Over Again, and he wrote most of the lyrics for that song. He also co-wrote the lyrics of God Has A Greater Plan, and in both cases, I wrote the melody and some of the lyrics. That song is very important to me because it was written right after he lost the 1976 presidential nomination, and he was questioning whether he would still be young enough to run for president four years later. I said, “I believe God has a greater plan”, and he told me that was the same thing Nancy says to him, so I told him we better write this song. Both songs that Ronald Reagan and I co-wrote are included on this album.”
“Ronald Reagan had the idea for the song Together A New Beginning, and he asked me to write the song and to include the names of all 50 states and to find a way to make the states rhyme in the form of a song. He made the decision to make Together A New Beginning the name for the entire 1980 Republican Convention in Detroit, and there are amazing videos and television images of the entire Convention marching together to that song. Ronald Reagan loved patriotic songs, and among his favorites were America The Beautiful, The Battle Hymn Of The Republic, and God Bless America. He also loved the more modern patriotic songs such as God Bless The USA by Lee Greenwood. All four of these songs are included on this album.”
“Ronald Reagan also loved hymns and gospel music. We included Wynonna Judd’s version of How Great Thou Art, which also included the Fisk Jubilee Singers. We also included Put Your Hand In The Hand by the Mike Curb Congregation. Ronald Reagan loved the hymn “God Be With You Till We Meet Again”, and we had the opportunity to include a new version of that hymn entitled God Be With You On Your Wedding Day written by United States Senator Roger Wicker. ”
“Everyone who ever traveled with Ronald Reagan knew how close his friendship was with Jimmy Stewart whom Ronald Reagan knew from the days they both acted in motion pictures. I had the pleasure of playing the song Life Is A Woman by Sammy Davis Jr. where Sammy impersonated Jimmy Stewart, and Ronald Reagan told me that he enjoyed listening to it several times. I included this impersonation of Jimmy Stewart on this album.”
“Eddy Arnold, one of the greatest country singers of all time, performed for Reagan during his presidential campaign and sang Make The World Go Away. Marie Osmond performed alongside her brother Donny Osmond for the entire 1980 Convention audience, and we included Marie’s version of Paper Roses as well as Eddy’s version of Make The World Go Away on this album.”
